Visual Arts
In the vibrant world of visual arts at Branksome Hall Asia, students are inspired to explore their creativity and develop their artistic talents in a dynamic and supportive environment.
The visual arts are an integral part of everyday life, permeating all levels of human creativity, expression, communication, and understanding. They range from traditional forms embedded in local and wider communities, societies, and cultures to the varied and divergent practices associated with new, emerging, and contemporary forms of visual language. They may have sociopolitical impact as well as ritual, spiritual, decorative, and functional value; they can be persuasive and subversive in some instances, enlightening and uplifting in others. We celebrate the visual arts not only in the way we create images and objects but also in the way we appreciate, enjoy, respect, and respond to the practices of art-making by others from around the world. Theories and practices in visual arts are dynamic and ever-changing and connect many areas of knowledge and human experience through individual and collaborative exploration, creative production, and critical interpretation.International Baccalaureate Organization 2014 Visual Arts Guide (2017)

Specialist Instruction from Early Years to Diploma Program
The Visual Arts at Branksome Hall Asia are taught by specialist teachers from the Early Years through to the Diploma Program. The subject is part of the core curriculum until Grade 9, after which it becomes an optional subject choice through Grade 12. Classes are conducted in exceptionally resourced studios and cover areas such as drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, digital media, photography, film, and ceramics. Each unit of work addresses essential criteria as determined by the PYP, MYP, and DP guidelines, providing students with a comprehensive understanding of the relationship between these skills and their historical and conceptual contexts.
Emphasis on the Creative Process
A significant emphasis is placed on the process of visual creativity. Students maintain Process Portfolios that document their learning through experimentation, research, and reflection. To support this individual learning journey, the school features special exhibitions and ongoing displays showcasing the high standard of student work. A culminating event each year is the Diploma Program Visual Art Exhibition, held on campus and drawing widespread acclaim for the quality of work and professionalism of curation.
