Design in the Middle School

Building on the strong foundation laid in the Junior School, design takes center stage in the Middle School curriculum for all students from Grades 6 to 8. All Middle School students take full-year design classes using the Design Cycle to research problems into sustainability, user experience, architecture, product design and engineering, This dedicated focus allows for a deeper exploration of design principles, preparing students for the exciting specializations that await them in Grade 9 and 10.

Computer Science

Cultivating Computational Thinkers

Our computer science curriculum emphasizes computational thinking, equipping students with the essential skills to understand and interact with the digital world. Our comprehensive program seamlessly integrates computer science, robotics, and coding from the Junior School to Middle School, fostering a love of learning and cultivating a deep understanding of the power of technology. In Middle School, students delve into the exciting world of coding, learning Python, Arduino, and app design.

We also provide opportunities for students to achieve prestigious CISCO NetAcademy certifications. Students work towards these certification within their regular design courses. Students explore a wide range of exciting areas, including coding, robotics, app design, game design, and physical computing using Arduino microcontrollers and other sensors. Beyond Grade 9, students have the opportunity to specialize in computer science and robotics, pursuing their passions and developing advanced skills in these dynamic fields.

Design Passport

A Portfolio of Lifelong Learning

The Design Passport serves as a unique and valuable portfolio of student learning, documenting their design journey throughout their years in the program. This personalized record allows students to showcase their achievements, record their development of skills related to the Design Cycle, and access a wealth of learning resources, including tutorials, lessons, and helpful references. The Design Passport encourages a spirit of lifelong learning, guiding students to explore a diverse range of skills, from digital media and coding to robotics, electronics, machine operation, and the skillful use of hand tools. By documenting their experiences and reflecting on their learning, students gain a deeper understanding of their own design process and develop the confidence to apply their knowledge to new and exciting challenges.
