Welcome to Clan Week 2022!

Welcome to Clan Week 2022!

Joseph Kelly,
Head of Visual and Performing Arts, Service Learning Coordinator

One of Branksome Hall Asia’s proudest traditions is Clans. Each student at Branksome Hall Asia is a member of a group called a Clan, together with students from all other grade-levels. Clans serve an indispensable purpose, building community in our school.  Because Clans bring together students of all age groups, there are familiar faces all around. Also, these connections support our community of learning.

Clans are led by Clan Chieftains. Our newly elected Junior School Clan Chieftains kicked off Clan Week this year with an exciting and flashy student-led assembly. These fledgeling leaders started their planning by considering the purpose of Clan Week. The Chieftains have planned activities to help new and old students break the ice with people they have never met before and build a team spirit in their Clans.

Grade 1-5 students, dressed in their clan shirts, will take part in these activities led by their Chieftains, on September 7 and September 23rd. On September 23, the Chieftains will also lead their clans to lunch on our first Eat With Your Clan day. The Clan with the most clan points each month will lead the line!

Chieftains had another important message for the Junior School students. As of August 2022, the Junior School Clans have changed their names. The Junior School Clans have adopted the Middle and Senior school Clan names, Campbell, Douglass, MacGregor, MacLean, McAlpine, McLeod, Ross, and Scott. Students' Clan colors will stay the same, and they can continue to use their Clan shirts.

The Chieftains sought out experts in the school to interview about the meanings of these names. They have put together a video explaination and led a short quiz for the whole Junior School. They have also updated the Clan Logos and made badges to give out as prizes. It has been a busy start to the year for the Clan Chieftains, so please join me in celebrating their service and leadership. Thank you, Chieftains!
