This Year’s Focus on Service Engagement to Shape a Better World

Many schools in the world aim to deliver excellent academic results for their students and some offer extracurricular activities. At Branksome Hall Asia, we are committed to ensuring that your child develops a high intellectual standard, through our rigorous academic curriculum, which will open wonderful doors of higher learning to her. In addition, we are truly committed to her complete development: intellect, character, skills and talent. It is this holistic education for our students that ultimately sets them apart from their peers.

This year, as a whole school, we are focussed on developing units of learning across every grade, subject and school. These units have service themes embedded within them and provide authentic opportunities for our students to provide innovative solutions that deliver real world benefits. This work is a multi-stage process and involves first identifying the contexts and concepts which best align with the United Nations Global Goals (https://www.globalgoals.org/). These goals represent the real needs that exist in every community in our world today. They are the goals that we, as a global community, have collectively agreed need to be resolved by the year 2030 in order to make our world a better place.

The next step provides students with the opportunity to develop solutions to the needs they have learned about. Students then engage in service and work directly with organisations and professionals who are working to address these needs.  Our students will receive feedback that helps them engage further and thus provides them with invaluable experiential learning.

This development of our Signature Service Learning Program will help our students to cultivate the empathy needed to produce meaningful solutions that will help them to shape a better world, through the lens of their academic passions. It is an exciting development and we look forward to the amazing innovations that our students will produce.
