The Sisterhood of Traveling Stories

The Sisterhood of Traveling Stories

The Junior School Council is composed of students from Grades 10 and 11, who collaborate with the Head of Junior School and the Grade 5 Young Leaders to develop joint school events with the aim of creating a united education environment at Branksome Hall Asia. We believe that students learn best when they inspire each other regardless of their ages or backgrounds. To achieve this aim, the Junior School Council meets with Junior School students once a month to receive feedback from different age levels that might help us to make our school - especially our Junior School - a  better place.

We are currently working on a project called “Sisterhood of Traveling Stories,” which is an activity where older students read books for Junior School students during Flex times and during English lessons. We believe that stories have the special power to bond people together, and we hope through the stories that take everyone to the same place, students might feel closer to each other and develop relationships of trust. Our Council members are also creating a coloring book for prospective Branksome Hall Asia students who come to the admissions conferences with their parents so that their first memory related to Branksome Hall Asia can be friendly and warm. We are planning to hold a collaboration fair with the Middle and Junior Schools during which the Middle School students will host activity booths for the Junior School attendees. The booth ideas include all kinds of educational and entertaining activities such as making beaded bracelets or conducting science experiments together. Although we will have to postpone these group gatherings until the risks presented by COVID-19 situation have subsided, the Junior School Student Council members will continue to make plans and will put forth our best efforts to make our dreams of a fully unified school community come true.
