The Arts Council on Art during the Period of Social Distancing

The Arts Council of Branksome Hall Asia includes the Grade 12 Arts Prefect and the Grade Level Representatives from Grades 6-11. The Arts Council values the development of student artistic talents and school-wide creative culture by offering a broad range of artistic experiences. With this as our guiding philosophy, we focus on bringing out students’ artistic potential and widening their perspectives. A core value of The Arts Council, during the current global pandemic, is to look for greater possibilities that could not have been experienced during an ordinary school year. At our council’s weekly meetings, we are constantly looking for new ways for our students to enjoy art and to enhance their individual and collective artistic spirit. 

As a means of adhering to social distancing expectations, the Arts Council has chosen to use online platforms. Digital communication channels have been adopted to present valuable art experiences to a wide range of people both within and outside of the school community. First, we are dedicated to continuing our promotion of Branksome Hall Asia art events by actively utilizing the Arts Council Instagram account @bha.arts. Visitors to our Instagram can view interactive media content for this year’s production of “Mulan: The Orchid Among the Thorns” along with the orchestra’s winter concert. The council has made great efforts to distribute the promotional video that was produced for the play. In addition, we are in the process of creating Instagram camera filters based on the theme of the production. Finally, we are creating a VR exhibition platform to exhibit students’ work. Through this, we hope that students and audiences will have an innovative, engaging, and accessible artistic experience.

Guided by this year's Arts Council Motto of “Do Art, Be Art”, we promise to present a special art experience to the school community through diverse artistic events and platforms.
