TEDxBranksomeHallAsia 2021

By TEDxBranksomeHallAsia Student Leaders

On Monday March 22nd, the students of Branksome Hall Asia successfully presented TEDx, our very own independent TED event. The event was held virtually due to COVID-19, with 7 brilliant student speakers addressing this year’s theme of ‘Cause and Effect.’ The students confidently finished their speeches, with each and every one of them expressing an ‘idea worth spreading.’

A TEDx event is a local gathering where live TED-like talks and performances are shared with the community. This was the first year that the event was held virtually. The event was organized by Branksome Hall Asia student leaders, Yubin Cheong(G11), Jungyun Kim(G11), and Jihyun Son(G11) and 11 other student crew members. The crew was divided into several departments. Each department discussed details about marketing, finance, event coordination, and space design. Each and every member of the crew worked extremely hard to bring the event together. These efforts contributed to the success of TEDxBranksomeHall Asia 2021.

The following is a reflection of Jungyun Kim(G11) and Kawing Hui (G11), who had each participated in the event as a co-executive producer and speaker, respectively.

“As one of the three co-executive producers of 2021 TEDxBranksomeHallAsia, I am very proud of this year’s crew and speakers who successfully finished the event. Though we had to face the challenge of COVID-19 and organize an online event with no real audience, it helped us gain valuable and unique experience. Personally, I was also excited by the fact that our audience can join and watch such inspiring speeches at any time and place and not be restricted by physical matters. That being said, I would like to really thank Mr. Zarate who made the live-streaming of our first online TEDxBranksomeHallAsia possible.”

“Before the big red TEDx logo and before the confident speakers entered the stage, what students' had was merely an idea. It has been an absolute honor to watch each participants' ideas evolve into a speech after hours of hard work and effort. The speeches both taught me and amazed me in various different aspects, and as one of the speakers myself, it has been a remarkable and eye-opening experience. However, beyond the informative and educational factors of TEDx, I hope both students and teachers utilize our project as a reminder to have courage and bravery to take on new opportunities and challenges, because we too, started with just a simple idea that we thought was worth spreading.”
