Service Council for a Better World

The Service Council strives to shape a better world by providing the needed supports for marginalized communities in and outside of Branksome Hall Asia. Paying careful and sincere attention to the stories of the disadvantaged and sharing it to a wider community through both direct and indirect support is our biggest interest as a council. We gather the voices of the different age groups in our school by recruiting student leaders from grades 6 to 12, and this, without a doubt, is one of the biggest advantages of the council. Our hard work includes live discussions on the different service issues, well-organized documents we construct to effectively share our ideas and for creating plans, and lastly, the interactions we carry out with our target groups for support by demonstrating what we have worked on.

Each project we build on focuses on a typical service pillar, and these include; sacrifice, empathy, giving, and more. One of the traditional projects we have completed is named, “The Shoebox Donation” where our members encourage the whole school to prepare wonderful Christmas gifts for children in the ‘Cheonsa’ orphanage in Jeju. From learning the gratefulness of ‘giving’ in a spiritual and heart-warming day like Christmas, the students at BHA and children in the orphanage are able to make a genuine interaction and experience the emotion that comes from both receiving and giving. We can proudly present this project as one that truly engages the whole community. For the beginning of this term, our council has started preparing a “Sacrifice Week” for all the staff and students to participate in making a sacrifice of any form to support the different marginalized groups that we have discussed. Through this week of encouraging people to make genuine sacrifices, we hope our community to be conscious of significant social issues and also realize how much of a privileged life we are currently living.
