Samsung Human Tech Paper Award

Yujeong Ha (Grade 10) has achieved a remarkable feat in the 30th Samsung HumanTech Paper Awards. Her paper, titled “제주 토양세균을 활용한 해풍 대응 농작물 백신시스템 개발 (Innovating Crop Protection: Jeju Soil Bacteria-Powered Sea Breeze-Responsive Vaccine System),” has earned her a silver medal and a prestigious 5,000,000 KRW scholarship.

Enjoying its 30th anniversary this year, Samsung HumanTech Paper Awards is a widely renowned contest for high school and college scientists. When students submit their scientific papers, professors with expertise in specific topics assess them and select a few for each category based on their creativity, expertise, and other factors. Then, the authors of the chosen papers present their research and achievements in front of 10+ experts on the focused topic.

This year, Yujeong Ha delved into researching the uniqueness of Jeju’s soil and its benefits in enabling plants to endure soil salinization. Through her research and experiments, Yujeong ultimately invented a sea breeze-responsive vaccine system for plants with Jeju soil bacteria. Since her paper was strongly tied to Yujeong’s prolonged passion for environmental health, she could conduct her research and write papers with enthusiasm and joy.

As she believes that her passion can ignite passion in another scientist in Branksome Hall Asia, benefiting the good of the community, Yujeong plans to donate the entire prize to the school’s Science Department. Currently, she is communicating with faculty members of the Science Department to figure out the best way to contribute to the school's science program.

Please congratulate Yujeong Ha for her remarkable achievements.
