Local Sports Events Shine a Light on our Talented Athletes

“Halloween weekend saw our football, swim, and basketball squads participate in some very exciting tournaments both on campus and at KISJ.”

All three of these sports take you through the highest of highs and the lowest of lows and bring out almost every conceivable emotion along the way. Playing basketball, football, or participating in a swim competition can teach you lifelong lessons through victory and defeat, and develop important skills like hard work, leadership, sportsmanship, and perseverance.

Students from our football CASE team travelled to KISJ recently where they played multiple games against other schools. In football (soccer) matches, every player is counted on to play their individual role; it has been called the ultimate team sport by many! The teamwork embedded in football helps children become accustomed to working well with others - a key skill required in most professions.

Our basketball and swim teams played in an intramural tournament with the students of our Middle and Senior Schools during this recent event and it was thrilling to see them interact with those in the older grades.

At Branksome Hall Asia we believe strongly in the importance of intramural sports events as such activities encourage healthy competition and build strong bonds within the school community.

These events also teach the value of sport spirit. The ability to accept defeat gracefully is a sign of maturity and is a requisite skill for success. Losses at sports events teach students to rebound more strongly the next time and thereby build resilience as students practice their sport.  Victories, by comparison, teach our students to never rest on their laurels but to keep practicing, and always maintain a ‘fighting’ form.

Our students are already asking when their next intramural tournament will be held, and the enthusiasm of our students for these kinds of competitions is evident.

Swim Academy, soccer, and basketball are year-long CASE clubs in which students are encouraged to participate during all three CASE terms.
