Junior School Woodshop

Students enhance their playground by completing service projects.

Case Junior Activities focus on 4 areas:

C: Creativity
A: Activity
S: Service
E: Enrichment

During block 1 of Junior School Case, students in Woodshop focused on the ‘service’ pillar by completing projects to enhance the Junior School Playground. During the last couple of months, Woodshop students in Grades 3-5 have been busy constructing new picnic tables for the grassy area surrounding the playground. The tables will be used by students for outdoor learning as well as for eating their snacks during morning recess. This area will serve as a meeting place for parents before and after school. The new picnic tables will have umbrellas to provide additional shade on the playground.

While constructing the tables the students learned many new skills. Many of the students had no experience constructing large projects; however, they displayed an eagerness to learn how to safely and confidently use various hand and power tools. Perhaps the most valuable lesson they learned was working with a team of others to accomplish a goal. It was impressive to see such cooperation amongst the students and excitement as they neared completion.

The Woodshop students are always looking for additional projects to serve the school. Our list is always growing, and our next project will be to construct smaller picnic tables for our youngest learners in JKPrep, JK, and SK which will be placed outside the Lower Junior Pod.
