JS AMIS Solo and Ensemble Music Festival, Amsterdam

By Paula Swartz, MYP Coordinator

Once again this year, our Branksome students took the stage with confidence and panache at the AMIS festival in Amsterdam.

AMIS, which is French for ‘friends’, is an acronym formed by the Association for Music in International Schools. Schools from five continents participated in this festival. In fact, AMIS organizes over 20 events worldwide each year, engaging the very best conductors and music adjudicators worldwide.

The Association for Music in International Schools (AMIS) is dedicated to the promotion of excellence at all levels of music education in international schools.

The mission of AMIS is to:

  • Advance the education of students and teachers throughout the world by developing their understanding, knowledge, and appreciation of music
  • Promote high stands of musical performance by all international school students
  • Advance the education of students and their teachers in global issues and cultural diversity through the performance and study of music
  • Promote furtherance of educationally valuable music repertoire

Our Branksome students have participated in the highly-challenging offerings of the AMIS organization for several years now. Without exception, these students’ lives have been changed by the amazing experiences AMIS has to offer and they have brought back the fervor and passion for all forms of music to our humble island.
