- Message from Teacher -

The Korea Design Promotion Institute (KDPI) youth awards recognize the strength of our young designers. We congratulate each student for their hard work, dedication, and risk-taking. Each of them has shown tremendous growth as a designer and IB learner.

Hyoeun Yang’s work took her skills and approaches to design and applied them to a unique problem - an assistive device for administering CPR. Over her years in design, she has grown as a designer and critical thinker. Her award recognizes her growth as a designer.

CPR Assistant

In Korea, cardiopulmonary resuscitation and survival rates for cardiac arrest patients are significantly low in public places, including urban centers and beaches since it is difficult for people who have not received CPR training to perform the correct practice. According to data presented by the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in 2017, the highest level of cardiopulmonary resuscitation for the general public is only 21%. To increase the survival rate of cardiac arrest patients regardless of their locations, I designed a product that helps any ordinary people who are not trained in CPR to respond accurately within the golden time (the first four minutes after cardiac arrest).
