How to Spend Summer Vacation

How to Spend Summer Vacation

Pauline Li,
MSSS Social Counselor

The school year is almost done! Many students are thinking about how to have fun on summer vacation while at the same time doing something useful. Here are some ideas to spend the summer vacation productively and in a favorable manner.

Learn new skills

  • Training: Summer is a perfect time to improve physical health. Training different sports helps students make new friends, and gain the self-confidence all successful athletes possess.

  • Drawing or painting: It helps students explore their minds and project their thoughts and ideas onto a canvas.

  • Photography: Drawing can be challenging, so photography is a good alternative, and if combined with hiking or sightseeing, it can be an extremely fun activity.

Enjoy nature

  • Go for a hike, have a picnic, fly a kite, or visit a nature reserve.

Reading books

  • As we all know “a book is our best friend.” When you don’t have anyone to play around with, reading a book is the best way to get rid of boredom.

Improve your vocabulary and writing skills

  • Writing skills are important for academic success, and they’re even more important for career success, so work on your writing skills this summer.

Learn new language

  • Knowledge of foreign languages enables you to get to know different cultures and ways of life.

Join a summer camp

  • Many schools and institutes offer various types of summer camps to choose from.

Get an internship

  • Take what you learned in the classroom and apply your knowledge. It helps you develop self-confidence and prepare for college.

Volunteer for local community organizations or volunteer abroad

  • Volunteering is an excellent way to gain experience and make a college application stand out.

Travel abroad

  • If you love adventure, summer is a great time to explore and travel to a new place. It helps you gain a global perspective, practice cultural sensitivity and develop skills like independence, empathy, and self-awareness.

Enjoy your summer and stay safe! See you in August!
