Helpful Tips for Hong Kong Universities

Hong Kong University Applications - Fast Track/Early Consideration Scheme

Students should consider fast-track admission for HKU, CUHK, HKUST, CityU and HKPoly, if your student has achieved good academic results/other activities. It should be noted that each Hong Kong university has a separate application portal. The deadline for the fast-track admission for top five HK universities is usually from Nov. 15 - 30.

Under the Fast Track admission scheme, it is intended that offers will be made in January. Students have around two weeks to consider the offer of admission and settle the deposit by the deadline stated on the offer of admission. If you are not given an offer under Fast Track, your application will be considered in the main round.

Some notes from our University Counselors about past student experiences with Hong Kong applicants:

  • IB Students may be awarded Advanced Standing Admission (which involves the awarding of college credit)

  • Students may be awarded merit-based scholarships ( in cases where students have earned 36+ IB points) 

  • The total average cost is below the US, UK and Canada 

  • World Rankings show five HK schools in top 100 worldwide (HKU #22, HKUST #27, CUHK #43, CityU #48, and HK Poly #75 – QS World Report 2020
