Grade 12 Theory of Knowledge Presentations

On Saturday, 19 September, over 30 Grade 12 students came into school to give their TOK presentations. The four Grade 12 TOK teachers worked in pairs to watch and mark the presentations with some assistance from Mr. McNutt. The presentation is one of the two formal assessments used for the TOK course and is worth one third of the final grade, with an essay making up the other two thirds. The overall TOK grade is then combined with the Extended Essay grade to calculate how many bonus points each student will receive, with a maximum of three points.

Individual presentations are up to 10 minutes long or up to 20 minutes in the case of pairs. Saturday’s presentations explored topics ranging from whether we can separate the artist from the art; the extent to which social media and/or technology shapes our knowledge; how certain we can be about historical knowledge; and how knowledge reflects or perpetuates existing power structures.

Once all the presentations are done and the accompanying TOK Presentation Planning Documents (PPDs) are completed, we will introduce this year’s essay titles and students will begin work on planning those with the support of their teachers.

Thanks and well done to all those involved. It is never easy to stand up and present in front of an audience and marking panel.
