Come Join Us in Wonderland!

By: Tara May, Middle School Drama Teacher

Students ranging from Grade 6 to Grade 11 have been working for the past month and a half to prepare for the production of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. Adapted from the classic Lewis Carroll tale, this play, written by Deborah Lynn Frockt, follows Alice as she steps into a painting and arrives in Wonderland. She meets many fantastic characters, such as the Mad Hatter, the Cheshire Cat, the Caterpillar, and many others throughout her search for the White Rabbit and the Queen.

Throughout the process, students have been working on their collaboration skills in order to work as a team. As the cast is combined of students from Middle School and Senior School, they are learning how to communicate across grade levels in order to successfully collaborate. The script is written entirely in English. This allows students to practice their English and helps them to develop confidence in speaking English in front of an audience. With the script to support them, they work on memorization techniques and public speaking abilities – skills that they can apply to their coursework as well as to their future careers.

Our guest artists from ViDa – Connor Quill and Jesse Wright, are assisting all of the students involved in both the onstage and off-stage sides of the production. This is their fourth year working at Branksome Hall Asia as theatre consultants and we couldn’t be more excited to have them back for this years production. Students are able to self-regulate and act as leaders as they can devise their own movement sequences and develop the backstories for the characters while being supported by ViDa.

The performances for Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland will be held in the PAC auditorium on December 12th and 13th at 7pm, and December 14th at 2pm. More information on how to buy tickets will be coming soon. We look forward to having you join us on the adventure to Wonderland!
