Authors for Everyone
This school year we have been able to bring several authors in person to support reading and writing across the school. Award-winning Korean American author An Na worked with G9 students to support their creative writing at the start of the year, followed by Children’s Poet Laureate Kenn Nesbit who focused on poetry writing in the Junior School. Yangsook Choi was able to visit in person to work with G5 students to write their own picture books in February and in Lower Junior School, James Sellick shared his stories about feelings and the environment. Last month we hosted Michael Salinger and Sara Holbrook as Poets in Residence working with students from G2 to G8, culminating in our first ever MS Poetry Slam.
To avoid summer slide, our summer reading programs have just been launched. These benefit students by helping them to maintain their language abilities in English over the break. There are separate programs for JS students from G1-5, and for Middle and Senior students this year. Middle School students will choose one of their summer books to complete activities during English class in August. Middle and Senior School students are also invited to participate in the Summer Bingo Reading Challenge developed in conjunction with the Language Proficiency Council. Click on the links above for more information.
Students can read books from SORA, our ebook platform which provides a wide range of ebooks, audiobooks and magazines. We also hosted our annual Summer Book Fair from Tuesday 28th to Thursday 30th May so that students and parents could purchase new books for the summer.
