Adventurous Journey through the Duke of Edinburgh

The Duke of Edinburgh is an international program composed of 4 main sections. It is designed to encourage students to pursue passions and interests connected to new (or existing) skills, physical activities, and serving the community. In essence these first three areas are embedded within the  IB C.A.S. program. The fourth component is the Adventurous Journey.

The Adventurous Journey is a self-sustained, overnight challenge for students over the age of 14. In groups of 4-7, students plan out a route and supplies, travel together, bring and prepare all food, set up camp, and then return the following day. During our CASE activity, we help students develop the skills needed for success. These skills include endurance, map reading, route planning, and meal prep, among others. Ultimately, we hope that our students will feel confident navigating the world around them with the assurance that they can take care of themselves. This year, we are planning on conducting our Adventurous Journeys during Term 3 of CASE.

So far this year, we have been lucky to have amazing weather and have worked predominantly on map reading and pacing. The students have enjoyed exploring the ocean by Gosan and Saebyeol Orem as they navigated their journeys.
