At Branksome Hall Asia our learners have the opportunity to enter into a variety of Mathematics and Computing Competitions run by the University of Waterloo throughout the year. Canada’s University of Waterloo, a leading tertiary institution of computer science, mathematics and engineering runs competitions for both local and international schools.
On Thursday 16th February we had 9 students from Grade 8 to 11 sit in the Canadian Computing Competition (Junior division). This contest is designed to both accessible to participants with some programming experience and to challenge the keenest programmers at the secondary school level, the CCC helps participants build confidence and grow their ability to design, understand and implement algorithms. Congratulations to the following BHA girls who achieved a distinction award: Seojeong Ahn (Grade 10) and Jimin Kim (Grade 8). An additional congratulations to Seojeong who got a perfect score.
On Thursday 23rd February we had 64 students from Grade 8 to 11 sit the Pascal (Grade 9), Cayley (Grade 10) and Fermat (Grade 11) Competitions. These contests are accessible both to those that have written math contests in the past and to those who haven’t, these multiple-choice contests can help learners build confidence and inspire them to get excited about math. Congratulations to the following BHA girls who achieved a distinction award: Hyewon Byun, Lina Kim, Seiyeon Kwon, Jimin Lee and Heeji Moon (Grade 8); Jiyoon Baek, Giryeon Choi, Minseo Kang, Daeun Kim, Ellie Chaehyun Kim, Jeong-in Kim, Yejin Kim, Yeonju Ko and Jihu Lee (Grade 9); Seojeong Ahn, Minje Jang, Seyoon Jeong, Eyoung Kim, Jiyul Lee, Minjoo Song and Juhyun Sung (Grade 10); Jihyun Chung, Soohee Hwang, Jian Kim and Seojin Kim (Grade 11). An additional congratulations our school champions Seiyeon (Pascal), Minjoo (Cayley), Jiyul (Cayley) and Seojeong (Fermat).
On Wednesday, 5th April we had 3 students from Grade 11 sit the Euclid (Grade 12) Competition. This contest gives senior-level secondary school students the opportunity to tackle novel problems with creativity and all of the knowledge they've gained in secondary school mathematics. Congratulations to the following BHA girls who achieved a distinction award: Jihoo Kim and Seojin Kim. An additional congratulations to Seojin our Euclid school champion.
The next day we had 36 students from Grades 8 to 10 sit the Fryer (Grade 9), Galois (Grade 10) and Hypatia (Grade 11) Competitions. These contests are a unique opportunity for participants to write a full-solution contest — a format that can help learners develop both problem-solving and communication skills. Congratulations to the following BHA girls who achieved a distinction award: Hyewon Byun, Jimin Lee, Eunice Jiwoo Kang, Lina Gyeong Yeon Kim, Seiyeon Kyra Kwon (Grade 8); Jiyoon Baek, , Daeun Kim, Jeong-in Kim, Yejin Kim, Yeonju Ko, Dayoung Lee, Jihu Lee (Grade 9); Yujeong Choi, Minje Jang, Seyoon Jeong and Alim Yoo (Grade 10). An additional congratulations our school champions Jimin (Fryer), Lina (Fryer), Minje (Galios), Yujeong (Hypatia), Seyoon (Hypatia) and Alim (Hypatia).
On Thursday 18th May we had 33 students from Grade 6 to 8 sit the Gauss (Grade 7 and 8) Competition. This contest provides intriguing problems and a multiple-choice format make the Gauss contests a wonderful opportunity for all participants to grow their interest in and get curious about the power of math. Congratulations to the following BHA girls who achieved a distinction award: Junghyun Park and Yoonseo You (Grade 6); Juhee Han, Seojin Kim and Juhee Han (Grade 7); Seoyun Ahn, Lina Gyeong Yeon Kim, Jimin Lee, and Yinghemei Wang (Grade 8).
