Our 2021 Community Service Award recipients are Sir Eun Kim and Sir Hyun Kim. An exception has been made to give this award to two students this year and after you have read this story, you will understand why.

When they were in Grade 10, Sir Eun and Sir Hyun participated in a service trip to the Aeseowon Single Mom Center with us, to deliver donations we had collected at school. During this visit our students received a talk on the history of this social issue from Dr. Im AeDuk and spent time helping the mothers with their babies.

During this experience Sir Eun and Sir Hyun noticed that one of the babies was given pizza bread to eat and that this was not healthy for a baby. As a result, the girls recruited a team of students who visited the center regularly and cooked healthy food for the babies.

When the global pandemic created a global shutdown, it was no longer possible for the girls to visit the center to help provide the babies with healthy, homemade food. However, they were determined to find a way to continue helping the mothers and their babies. The students then approached many organic baby food companies and eventually convinced the company Maeil Dairy, to sponsor the babies at the center.

With the provision of these healthy meals every week, Sir Eun and Sir Hyun have helped to ensure that the babies have access to safe, nutritious food and will therefore not suffer from malnutrition. These are important targets within UN Global 2, which aims to eradicate hunger. #zerohunger

By going above and beyond to support the vulnerable members of our community, during this time of global pandemic, Sir Eun and Sir Hyun have earned our 2021 Community Service Award.
